The St. Vincent High School softball team got a little challenge to its North Central League II dominance last week, having to score eight runs in its last two innings to defeat Calistoga, 10-5. The league-unbeaten Lady Mustangs led just 2-1 after five innings, but picked up some insurance with two runs in the sixth, and put the game out of reach with six runs in the top of the seventh.

Calistoga, game to the end, rallied for four runs in the last of the seventh before St. Vincent could secure the win.

Amanda Yarger, Katelyn DelaMontanya and Bella Souza led a 15-hit St. Vincent attack with three hits each, with two of DelaMontonya’s hits being triples. Sully Henry slammed a grand slam home run to highlight the St. Vincent seventh-inning rally.

Haley Antonini, Henry and Grace Pedersen each had two hits for the Mustangs.

Henry earned the pitching win, going the seven-inning distance, allowing just four hits and four walks, while striking out 13.

St. Vincent had an easier time of it in an 18-7 five-inning win over Upper Lake.

St. Vincent scored six runs in the opening inning, added five more in the second and just kept scoring.

The Lady Mustangs had nine hits in the game, with McKenna Wilson-Kay, Henry and Kelly Stuhldreher collecting two apiece. Antonini homered and Henry doubled.

Roxie Kavanaugh and Yaeger split the pitching.

St. Vincent is now 7-7 on the season and 4-0 in league.
