NCS playoffs over for local teams

The North Coast Section baseball and softball playoffs were too short and not too sweet for area teams.

Although Petaluma had three teams in the baseball playoffs and two involved in softball post-season play, not one advanced beyond the quarterfinals and two were eliminated in the first round.

Casa Grande’s baseball Gauchos were the No. 1 seed in the Division 2 playoffs and breezed through their first game, defeating North Bay League rival Rancho Cotate, 8-2. The Gaucho season was ended on their home diamond by Northgate. The No. 9-seed Broncos from Walnut Creek came to Casa with a deceptive 18-7 record and ambushed the host, 5-1. Casa finished its season with a 21-6 record.

It was one-and-out for Petaluma’s Trojans in the same division as they lost at home to Montgomery’s Vikings from the NBL, 10-1. Petaluma finished with a 16-10 record.

St. Vincent’s Mustangs, playing at home, had little trouble defeating North Central League II rival Sonoma Academy, 8-1, in Division V, but had their season finished when they were beaten in San Francisco by Stuart Hall, 7-0. St. Vincent finished the season as NCL II champs and with a 19-7 overall record.

St. Vincent’s softball team also won at home in Division V, slugging University from San Francisco, 24-5, but then lost on the road at St. Bernard’s in Eureka, 9-0. The NCL II champ Lady Mustangs finished 14-9.

Petaluma’s softball team, Sonoma County League champion, lost its opening game in the Division 2 softball playoffs to Livermore, 8-0. the T-Girls finished their season at 16-11.
