After dominating in the cozy confines of their home parks, the surviving Petaluma Little League All-Star teams become travel teams for the rest of the tournament trail, beginning this week with Section 1 tournaments.

Petaluma National Little League’s Major champions won’t be going far, playing at the impressive Rincon Valley Little League complex in Santa Rosa. The National’s 11-year-old district champions will be at American Canyon, while the Petaluma American’s 10-year-old district champs will play in Davis.

All Petaluma teams begin Section play with an advantage. Each of the local teams draw a first-round bye in the five-team, double-elimination tournaments. All start play on Sunday.

Majors

Many of the Petaluma National Major Leaguers are familiar with the Rincon Valley complex, having played there in previous All-Star tournaments.

The Nationals open Sunday at 11 a.m. against the winner of a Saturday game between the District 53 champion Napa National Little League, and the District 4 champion Martinez Little League.

Also on Saturday, District 3 champion Tiburon Little League faces the District 64 champion. The District 64 king was to be determined Wednesday night, with Vacaville Central Little League playing Dixon Little League for the title. The Rincon Valley Little League complex is located at 1365 Baird Road in Santa Rosa.

Elevens

The District 35 champion Petaluma National Little League 11-year-old All Star team has a high noon showdown Sunday for its first game in the Section 1 Tournament hosted by American Canyon Little League.

The Petalumans will play the winner of a Saturday game between the District 4 and the District 64 champions. Lafayette is the District 4 champion. The District 64 winner is still to be determined although Davis American is the only undefeated team in a tournament that was to have been decided Wednesday or Thursday.

Napa National Little League, the District 53 champion, and San Francisco American, the District 3 winner play at noon Saturday.

The American Canyon Little League Park is located on Hess Drive in American Canyon.

Tens

It’s a Sunday morning start for the Petaluma American 10-year-old District 35 champions, who open at 10 a.m. against the winner of a Saturday game between District 3 champion Mill Valley and District 4 winner North Oakland.

Also on Saturday, District 64 champion Winters faces District 53 winner Sonoma.

Because of the Sacramento Valley heat, all games after the opening weekend will be played at night with 7 p.m. starts at the Davis Little League complex located at 1999 H St. in Davis.
