Torkelson, Joaquim named All-Americans

Casa Grande High School’s Spencer Torkelson and Chris Joaquim have been named High School All-Americans by USA Perfect Game.|

The immediate future of Casa Grande High School baseball is in the capable gloves, bats and arms of two of the state’s best baseball players.

Spencer Torkelson and Chris Joaquim, who will both be seniors this fall, were named High School All-Americans by USA Perfect Game.

Third baseman Torkleson was named to the second team, while Joaquim, a pitcher/outfielder received honorable mention notice.

That honor for Torkelson comes on top of his recognition as an All-State player by Cal-Hi Sports. The Gaucho leader was selected for the Underclassman first team.

Both Torkelson and Joaquim were also All-North Bay League selections.

Torkelson is a three-year varsity starter. Last season, he batted .442 and led the team with 34 hits, 25 RBIs 26 runs scored and 10 extra-base hits, including two home runs in 14 games. His batting average was the best among the team’s starting players.

Joaquim was Casa Grande’s workhorse pitcher, throwing 53 innings, while allowing only 17 earned runs for a 2.25 earned run average. He struck out 53 and walked 27. He also supplied power at the plate with seven extra-base blows among his 15 hits.
