The Petaluma Pee Wee Panthers tamed the Ukiah Lions, 12-8, at Ukiah High School Stadium.

The Panthers received the ball on the opening kickoff and moved it to Ukiah’s 20-yard line, where they turned it over to the Lions on downs.

The Panthers stopped Ukiah, and got the ball back to start the second quarter. The Panthers’ offense drove the ball down the field and receiver Robby Almond scored by plunging it in from the 2-yard line.

On the next possession, Ukiah scored and tied the game. Ukiah went for the extra point, and Panther linebacker Spencer Almond broke through the line to block the kick to make the halftime score 6-6.

After an uneventful third quarter, the Lions were successfully driving the ball, looking like they were going to score. However, the Panthers’ stingy defense stopped them on the 1-yard line, turning the ball over to Petaluma on downs. On the next play, Petaluma gave up a safety making the score 8-6 in favor of Ukiah.

The Panthers got the ball back late in the fourth quarter. Running back Toby Humphreys streaked around the left side for a Panther touchdown and the lead.

Ukiah had one last attempt to score, but that ended when Petaluma’s cornerback Jaret Bosarge intercepted a pass, sealing the win for the Panthers.

Quarterback Marcus Scott was on top of his game, as were defensive players nose guard Nicholas Pfendler and linebacker Joe Ellis. Other key contributors to the Panther win were Anthony Velledao, Cody Rodrigo, Ethan Bucy, Liam Schoeman, Trevor Liebel, Jake Bolek, Jace Shepherd, Jordan McAllister, Anton Rocco, Alex Rojas, Jace Winthal and Nick Sousa.

The next two weeks will be bye weeks for the Petaluma Pee Wee Panthers.

They will have scheduled scrimmages, but their regularly scheduled games will resume Sept. 25 against the Redwood PAL Golden Bears at Piner High School.

In other Petaluma games against Ukiah, the Mitey Mites lost, 22-21; the Junior Pee Wees lost, 28-7; the Junior Midgets lost, 20-0, and the Midgets won, 23-0.

Jaret Bosarge is a sixth-grader at Corona Creek School.
