Petaluma battled to a tough 2-2 tie with Sonoma Valley in a Sonoma County League match played in Sonoma.

Jessica Velasquez and Hannah Hermann had goals for the Trojans, with Laurel Hazel and Amy Ferrick providing assists.

Montgomery’s defense proved too strong for the Casa Grande girls as the Vikings shut out the Gauchos, 5-0, in a match played at Montgomery.

Lupe Sosa scored two goals for Montgomery and Cindy Arteaga, Gabby Alavera and Eden Brooker each booted in one as the Vikings won the North Bay League opener.

Casa Grande played tougher in a match on its home turf against Cardinal Newman, but lost 2-1, after being tied at the half at 1-1.

Cassie Walsh scored the Gaucho goal, while Keely Roy and Julie Bundensen scored for the Cardinals, who are now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in NBL play. Casa is 3-4 overall and 0-2 in league after taking on Montgomery and Cardinal Newman back-to-back.

St. Vincent’s Mustangs slipped from the ranks of the NCL II’s perfect teams but remained unbeaten in league, battling to a 1-1 tie with Technology. Athena Edwards scored the St. Vincent goal off an assist from Neila Gross.

Earlier in the week, the Mustangs ran over Tomales, 8-0. Neila Gross had a hat trick for the Mustangs, scoring three goals. Maddy Nielsen scored two and Grace Hosbein, Edwards and Shelby Murphy each tallied one.

Edwards set up two goals with assists and Hosbein and Isabella Welsh each provided an assist.

Siana Jimenez recorded the shutout in goal.

St. Vincent is now 5-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in league.

Girls golf

The learning season that is the Casa Grande girls golf year continued with a 303-318 loss to Rancho Cotate at Adobe Creek.

Mia Cain led the Gauchos with a 55, with Rose Dagnino shooting a 58. Delia Reif with a 67, Holly VanRenselaar with a 68 and Bella Husary with a 70 completed the Casa scoring.

Rancho Cotate’s Taylor Singh was medalist with a 52.

Sisters Sarah Jane Catrozoli and Lilly Catarozoli both played well, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Petaluma from losing to Analy, 255-263 in a match played at Rooster Run.

Olivia Zimmeran shot a 56 and Teresa McCaughey and Mandy O’Keefe each had a 60 for the Trojans.

Katie Morita led Analy with a 48, but the difference was every Tiger shooting a 55 or better.

Girls tennis

Analy had too much depth for Petaluma in a Sonoma County League tennis match played in Sebastopol, beating the Trojans, 6-1.

Petaluma’s only win came in No. 3 singles play, where Alaisa Barone defeated Isabel Katz, 7-5, 7-5, in a tough match.

Volleyball

After dominating Casa Grande for the first two sets, Montgomery had to struggle to finish off the Gauchos, finally closing out a 3-0 win with a 27-25 triumph in the third set. Montgomery ruled in the first two sets, 25-12, 25-11.

St. Vincent continued to roll in the North Central League II, dispatching Sonoma Academy, 25-9, 25-12, 25-14.

Ali Fetter provided 18 assists and three aces for the Mustangs, while Sarah Calabrese had 14 kills and served four aces and Eva Clark contributed nine assists. Analise Silva served three aces and had seven kills.

The Mustangs followed up with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-13 sweep of Rincon Valley Christian.

The St. Vincent leaders were again Calabrese with 10 kills, Feter with 26 assists and Silvia with 13 kills.

The same suspects led a 25-13, 25-9.25-8 sweep over technology. Silva had 13 kills and served seven aces; Calabrese had 10 kills and served 10 aces; and Fetter had 15 assists and served seven aces.

Petaluma had very little trouble defeating El Molino, 25-19, 25-12, 26-11, in a match played at Petaluma.

Cianna DeCarli led Petaluma to its sixth win (four losses) and second League win (one loss) with 16 kills.
