The Petaluma High volleyball team is sporting a 4-1 Sonoma County League record going into this week’s play, with its only loss coming at the hands of Sonoma Valley in Sonoma.

Most impressively, the Trojans were able to beat last year’s nemesis, Analy High, 3-1, in the notoriously tough Analy Gym. On Oct. 5 will be the home match against Sonoma Valley, with the winner having the inside track on the SCL championship. The Trojans are hoping to pack the gym for the contest. Most of the football players have already pledged their support. Game time is 4 p.m.

Once again, the team is led by it’s outstanding hitter Sianna DeCarli, who might as well wear a T-shirt that states, “If you can read this, you are standing too close.” Sianna leads the team in kills, while setter Juliana Bertolucci leads the team in assists. Other senior standouts are Edyn Garvisch, Hannah Wheless, Jordan Marshall and Adri Poore.

The seniors are assisted by juniors Grace Ghirardelli, Whitney Royall, Claire Tuscher and Jaime Hamilton, while sophomores Serena Horvath and Hannah Dillingham provide future potential.

Second-year coach Ryan Hughes says his team’s success is due to the talent that he inherited, plus a new camera system that allows the team to review and improve upon its play.

The Sonoma Valley contest begins with the junior varsity match at 5 p.m. The varsity match begins at 6:30 p.m.
