Petaluma runners set for SCL meet

Trojans getting prepared for league finals Nov. 5 at Spring Lake Park|

Petaluma High’s cross country team is running rapidly toward the Sonoma County League championships coming up on Nov. 5 at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa.

The Trojans were schedule to complete their SCL season Tuesday in a three-way meet against Sonoma Valley and Elsie Allen. Results were not available at press time.

The Trojans have shown promise in their first two league meets.

The Petaluma girl’s varsity team is led by senior Sophie Hospodar and sophomore sensation Camille Flynn, who tied for victory in last week’s meet against El Molino and Analy won by Petaluma.

The previous week, the same two runners led Petaluma to a win against Healdsburg, while coming in second against league powerhouse Piner.

Hospodar and Flynn are supported by seasoned runners Grace Thomas, Helena Abbott, Siena Lambert, Gina Maddalena, Allison Roper, Anna Demma and Nicole Efstathiu.

The Petaluma boys are led by the Dunbar twins, juniors Jack and Will, with seniors Conner Efstathiu and P.J. Lynch (currently injured) not far behind. Rory Rodgers, David Lomas Sahagun, Jose Herrera Martinez and Mario Vasquez Garcia round out a solid unit.

Will Dunbar placed first in both tri-meets and is expected to contend for the SCL league title and subsequent North Coast Section meet.
