Petaluma, Casa soccer teams could meet in NCS

There is a possibility that the Casa Grande and Petaluma High School boys soccer teams could meet in the second round of the NCS playoffs.|

It’s on the road for Petaluma teams as the North Coast Section winter soccer playoffs begin this week.

Petaluma was to open Wednesday night at Campolindo, while Casa Grande played the same night at Acalanes in Division 2. Game results were not available at deadline.

Petaluma is the No. 10 seed, going into the playoffs with a 10-6 record that includes a 7-5 Sonoma County League mark. The Trojans won a North Coast Section championship for the first time in school history last season, but that was in a less competitive spring season. This year, the Trojans’ SCL has joined most other large school leagues in playing winter soccer.

Campolindo is the seventh seed. The Moraga-based Cougars from the Diablo Valley League are 10-9-4 for the season.

Casa Grande enters the playoffs as the No. 18 seed. The Gauchos are 9-9-5 for the season and 6-5-3 in North Bay League play.

They face a difficult opening task against No. 2 seed Acalanes from Lafayette. The Dons are 16-2-4 overall and champions of the Diablo Foothill League with a 9-1 record.

Should both Petaluma and Casa Grande win, they would meet Friday night at Petaluma in a quarterfinal match.
