Casa Grande qualifies four wrestlers for NCS tourney

Casa Grande had two second-place finishers and two third-place efforts at the North Bay League Wrestling Championships.|

Casa Grande High School’s Gauchos have qualified four wrestlers for the North Coast Section Wrestling Tournament to be held Saturday at James Logan High School in Union City.

Casa had two second-place finishers and two third-place efforts at the North Bay League Championships held last Saturday at Maria Carrillo High School. The top three finishers in each weight class qualify for NCS.

As a team, Casa finished fifth with 112 points, behind champion Ukiah (237.5), Windsor (213), Maria Carrillo (149) and Cardinal Newman (137.5). Santa Rosa (61), Rancho Cotate (31) and Montgomery (20) rounded out the field.

Casa’s Victor Medina (115 pounds) and Jacob Black (172) both reached the finals. Medina lost in the championship to Ashton Stanley of Ukiah, while Black was beaten by Manny Martinez of Ukiah in the finals.

Justin Naugle (172) and Dominic Green (134) also qualified for NCS by finishing third.

Casa Grande’s Aaron Krupinsky (140), Sean Lopez (147) and Tannor McKinney (162) are NCS alternates after finishing fourth in the tournament.
