Parker Ruoff and Hance Smith combined to throw Casa Grande’s baseball Gauchos to a 3-1 win over Granite Bay on the second day of the Boras Baseball Classic in Sacramento.

Ruoff allowed just one hit in five innings and Smith followed up with two hitless innings to beat the nation’s 33rd-ranked high school team.

The one-hitter was the second for Casa Grande pitchers in three tournament games. On the tournament’s opening day, Chris Joaquim lost a heart-breaking 1-0 decision to Davis.

Smith also had a big game at the plate for Casa against Granite Bay, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs.

Quinton Gago doubled and drove in a run. Max Cerini had a hit and scored a run. John Green had two hits and scored a run. Spencer Torkelson doubled and scored a run.

Casa Grande’s final game of the tournament, which would have been a rematch with Granite Bay, was rained out.

Casa Grande finished with a 2-1 record in the tournament, which brought together eight of the best teams in Northern California. The Gauchos defeated Turlock, 22-9, and then lost a heart-breaking game to Davis, 1-0, before beating Granite Bay.

Davis reached the tournament finals before losing to Bellarmine, 6-2.
