All three local high school baseball teams and two of the three area softball teams are continuing their season in the North Coast Section playoffs.

Casa Grande’s North Bay League champion Gauchos (21-4) are the top seed in Division 2. The Gauchos were to open at home Wednesday afternoon against Hayward’s Mt. Eden (9-15) from the Alameda County-Shoreline League. Results of that game were not available at press time.

A win would put the Gauchos into a quarterfinal game against the winner of the Marin Catholic (14-11) vs. Redwood (16-10) game on Friday or Saturday again at Casa Grande.

All weekday games begin at 5 p.m.

Petaluma (17-9), a Division 3 school playing up to Division 2, opened NCS play Tuesday with a 5-4 victory at San Lorenzo, the West Alameda County-Shoreline League champion. Petaluma, the No. 4 seed, will play at home Friday against either Ukiah or Washington. If Petaluma and Casa Grande win their first two games, they would meet in the semifinals.

St. Vincent (18-5) is the No. 3 seed in Division 5. The North Central League II champion Mustangs opened at home Wednesday against Technology (10-10) from their own NCL II. St. Vincent beat Technology twice during the regular season. The Titans are the No. 9 seed. A St. Vincent win sends the Mustangs into a game Friday or Saturday against the winner of the Bentley (12-7) vs. University of San Francisco (13-9) contest.

Petaluma’s softball T-Girls (16-9-1), like their baseball team a Division 3 school playing up to Division 2, played Tuesday at Rancho Cotate (19-7). Rancho is the No. 5 seed, while Petaluma was seeded No. 12.

The NCL II champion St. Vincent Lady Mustangs (13-5), the No. 2 seed in Division 5, drew a first-round bye, and will play at home Friday or Saturday against the winner of a first-round game between St. Bernard’s (10-12) and Laytonville (11-7).
