Gauchos play NCS championship game at Petaluma High School
The Casa Grande High School baseball team will have to travel to play the North Coast Section Division 2 championship game against Arroyo Saturday. The Gauchos just won’t have to travel far.
Casa players will go across town to play the title game at Petaluma High School, with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
Immediately after Casa Grande had defeated Ukiah, 13-8, Wednesday afternoon to earn a spot in the title game, it was announced that the contest would be played at Sonoma State University.
However, almost before the Gauchos could sit down for a post-game dinner, they were informed that Sonoma State would not be able to host the game.
Petaluma High coach Jim Selvitella, after contacting principal David Stirrat, offered the use of the Trojan diamond. If a suitable neutral site at not been found in the area, the game would have been moved to Diablo Valley College in San Ramon.
Arroyo’s Dons from San Lorenzo, come into the game with a 21-6-1 record. They are champions of the West Alameda County-Football League.
To reach the finals, the No. 3-seeded Dons beat Newark Memorial, 14-1; edged Alameda, 1-0; and shut out Tamalpais, 3-0. The No. 1-seeded Gauchos blanked Mt. Eden, 5-0; took care of Marin Catholic, 7-2; and out slugged Ukiah, 13-8.
