Rosters set, coaches picked: It’s Little League All-Star time

Road to Williamsport starts for Little Leaguers in District 35 Tournament.|

The rosters have been set, the managers and coaches chosen and practice is underway for the best of the Little Leaguers.

It is All-Star time, and Petaluma will have its share of the action as the road to Williamsport for 12-year-olds begins with the District 35 Tournament.

But All-Star baseball is not only for the Major League teams, there are also tournaments for 8-10-year-olds; 9-11-year-olds; Junior League for 12-14-year-olds; and Senior League for 13-16-year-olds. There is also a tournament for the 50/70 league for 12-13-year-olds, using longer base paths and a greater pitching distance.

The 8-10-year-old tournament begins July 1 with an immediate clash between the Petaluma American and Petaluma National at the Rincon Valley Little League complex in Santa Rosa. Petaluma Valley begins July 2 at Rincon Valley against the winner of the Santa Rosa American-West Side game. The tournament concludes July 9 or July 10 in Ukiah.

Petaluma Valley and Petaluma American play as part of a doubleheader on July 1 at the Petaluma Valley’s Murphy Field to start the 9-11-year-old tournament. The Americans face Ukiah at 11 a.m., followed by the Valley against Mark West at 2 p.m. Petaluma National plays July 2 against Coast on the Santa Rosa American diamond. The championship game will be July 9 or July 10 on Petaluma American diamond at Lucchesi Park.

Petaluma Valley and Petaluma American open Major League Tournament play for 10-12-year-olds June 30, both on their home diamonds. The Americans play at Lucchesi Park against Westside, while Petaluma Valley is at Murphy Field against Cloverdale. Petaluma National plays July 1 on its home Carter Field against the winner of a game between Santa Rosa American and Mark West. The championship game will be July 8 or July 9 at Carter Field.

Petaluma’s Junior team, a combination of Petaluma American and Petaluma National players, will start play July 1 against Healdsburg. The championship game in the single-elimination tournament will be played July 5 in Sebastopol.

There is a two-team double-elimination Senior League Tournament being played in Healdsburg between a combined Petaluma/Cloverdale/Healdsburg team and Rincon Valley. The tournament starts June 24 and concludes June 25 or June 27.
