Host Steal Breeze sweeps Father’s Day tourney

Steal Breeze teams take championships in all age groups in their annual Father’s Day Tournament.|

A refreshing Steal Breeze victory streak helped alleviate some of the burn of a blistering hot weekend that baked the Prince Park diamonds last weekend.

Host Steal Breeze teams won titles in all four age brackets in their own annual Father’s Day softball bash. Teams from Alameda, Campbell and Castro Valley competed in the tournament, along with the usual entrants from Rohnert Park, Sonoma, Santa Rosa and Windsor.

Under eights

Outstanding defense helped the Steal Breeze under 8s run the table, winning five straight games, three by shutout. They gave up just two runs in the entire tournament.

In pool play, the Petalumans won over the Windsor Wicked, 8-0; handled the Novato Heat, 8-1; and stopped the Santa Rosa Red Barons, 4-0.

Petaluma then beat the Wicked again, 5-1, in the bracket semifinals, before using base running derring-do and great glove work to top the Marin Tremors, 4-0, in the championship game.

Members of the championship team were Jasmine Williams, Maeve Broadhead, Isabella Hudson, Jennifer Jackson, Lily Lorezn, Ruby Martson, Tatum Mullins, Emma Schwappach, Adrienne Skye, Janaya Williams, Bridget Wilson and Lauren Wilson.

Under Tens

The under 10 championship game between the Steel Breeze Brody team and the Alameda Lightning may have been the best game of the tournament in any age bracket. Considering the championship was on the line, it was certainly the most exciting.

What it came down to was a 5-4 win for Petaluma when Marissa Brody tripled to start the top of the seventh inning and scored on an overthrow of a pickoff try.

Backed by outstanding defense, including a diving catch by second baseman Brittany Casper to end the game, Brody finished pitching a complete game for the championship game win.

Breeze also received strong pitching by Mya Gonzalez throughout the tournament.

During the long hot three days, Hannah Edwards caught every pitch and was outstanding behind the plate, while shortstop Isabella Badagalia was a consistent standout in the field.

Members of the championship team were Mya Gonzalez, Christina Bogart, Marissa Brody, Brittany Casper, Madisyn Eberhart, Hannah Edwards, Isabella Badagalia, Karlee Caldwell, Kallista Elkin, Valerie Farr, Ava Nelson and Lila Partridge.

The Steal Breeze Learn team played undefeated through pool play, but lost in the first round of bracket play to the Sonoma Revolution, 9-4.

Members of the Learn team were Lily Pardini, Callie Howard, Brittony Johnson, Lauren Ketchu, Raelynn MacQuarrie, Lily Gemma, Lacy Carlomagno, Nora Grace Gonzalez, Taylor Eaton, Haley Learn, Dallas Young, Alex Giacomini and Ansleigh Wagers.

Under Twelves

Steal Breeze Carlomagno ran the under 12 table, winning all three pool games and three straight bracket games.

In pool play, the Petalumans beat the Alameda Blaze, 12-0; the Campbell Crush, 6-3; and the Castro Valley Synergy, 2-0.

In bracket play, the Breeze downed Sonoma, 11-1, and Campbell, 4-2, before handling Synergy, 10-2, in a game that was closer than the final score showed.

Petaluma’s win was built on good pitching from Mallory O’Keefe, who won the championship game backed by outstanding defense.

One of the highlights of the championship game was a spectacular double play from O’Keefe to first baseman Karlie Bernich to catcher Hollie Pardini.

Members of the championship team were Hollie Pardini, Mackenzie MacQuarrie, Mallory O’Keefe, Kylie Carlomagno, Ellie Oatman, Sophia Skubic, Elizabeth Stiveson, Cassandra Llaverias, Macy Shern, Karlie Bernich, Madelyn Delamontanya and Jamie McGaughey.

The Steal Breeze Casey team went 2-1 in pool play before losing in bracket competition to the Campbell Crush, 4-3.

Members of Steal Breeze team were Elyanna Gonzalez, Brycelyn Casey, Grace Anglim, Brooke Baxman, Cara Broadhead, Kaden Brody, Madelyn Fannin, Alyssa Goebel, Haley Goebel, Kyra Jensen, Casey Sullivan and Mia Vaughn.

Under fourteens

The Steal Breeze under 14s rolled through pool play, defeating the Santa Rosa Hackers, the Rohnert Park Rebels and the Millbrae Mischief, but they were just warming up.

Given a first-round bye, the Breeze went on to beat the Santa Rosa Red Barons, 10-6, and polish off Millbrae, 12-3, in the championship game.

Mallory O’Keefe, with help from a strong defense, pitched the championship game win. It was her second pitching win of the tournament. Ashley Casper and Emily Hart also pitched well in tournament wins. All the pitchers were aided by a solid effort from catcher Logan Pomi, who ignored the heat to play an outstanding tournament. Emma Weiand delivered what was perhaps the most impressive hit of the tournament when she blasted a home run over the fence during pool play.

Members of the Steal Breeze championship team were Ava Luiz, Abigail Carvajal, Mallory O’Keefe, Abbie Delaney, Olivia Badaglia, Emma Hughes, Ashley Casper, Emily Hart, Logan Pomi Alyssa Smith, Kamryn Sobel, Emma Weiand and Kaleigh Weiand.
