Petaluma wins volleyball tourney

The Petaluma High School girls volleyball team defeated Galileo 2-1 to win the Nor Cal Invitational Tournament title at Novato High School.|

The Petaluma High School volleyball team continued the impressive start to its season, battling to a win in the Nor Cal Invitational Tournament hosted by Novato High School.

In pool play, Petaluma defeated Mira Loma, 25-13, 25-14; Lower Lake, 25-8, 25-9; and Encinal, 25-5, 25-10.

The sweep moved Petaluma into an exciting championship game where it lost the first set to Galileo, 25-17, staved off elimination, 29-27, then won a thrilling tournament-deciding third set, 15-13.

Petaluma is now 8-1 on the season going into a big home match against Sonoma Valley on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Petaluma finished second to Sonoma Valley in the Sonoma County League last season.
