St. Vincent de Paul High School has appointed Stan Switala as its varsity baseball coach. He will lead all levels of the baseball program at the high school.

Switala will replace longtime coach Gary Galloway, who will step down from his role in baseball, in which he has served the school for 32 seasons. Galloway concludes a nearly four-decade run as a very successful coach. He has recorded five NCS A titles and 21 NCL II titles. His teams were co-champions three times. He had a won-loss record of 579-224 with three ties for a winning percentage of .718.

Galloway will remain in his position as chair of the physical education department.

Switala played Division I college baseball as a starting pitcher. After two stints in professional baseball, his coaching career began at the collegiate level and continued at two high schools in Marin County.

After serving for four years as a professional baseball scout for the New York Mets, he established the “Top Speed Baseball” organization.

“To reach the goals of the St. Vincent’s athletics program, we will complement our exceptional athletic facilities with intensified coaching and mentoring for our student-athletes,” Switala stated.

Steven Knudson is joining the program as its primary assistant coach.

An alum of El Camino High School in South San Francisco, he was named a two-time Peninsula Athletic League Player of the Year while also being selected to the All-State team. His collegiate career includes being named an All-American for three different schools; Cañada College, Oklahoma Baptist University and The University of Montevallo. He has coached high school athletes for Westmoor High School in Daly City, Oceana High School in Pacifica and the Top Speed Baseball organization.
