Braves lose opener

After losing its opening game, the Tomales boys basketball team faces powerhouse Branson.|

Tomales High School’s Braves get no break in the first round of the Redwood Classic Tournament hosted by Branson High School in Ross.

The Braves were to have opened tournament play Wednesday night against host Branson, a powerhouse that went 26-9 last season. Tomales goes into the tournament coming off a season-opening 45-29 loss to Summerfield Waldorf.

After a slow first quarter, Summerfield Waldorf’s Mustangs exploded for 19 points in the second quarter for a 26-14 halftime lead and romped from there.

Six Braves scored, but none reached double digits.

Brady Woodward led the Braves with seven points, with Riker Whitt and Tony Romo scoring six each, Andy Azevedo adding five, Nick Wright three and Concho Padilla two.

Hudson Yoxall led Summerfield Waldorf with 17.
