Petaluma girls are Queens of the Mat in Pittsburg

Busy but successful week for Petaluma wrestlers.|

It was a busy weekend for the Petaluma High School wrestling team, with success in three different tournaments.

None were more successful than the Petaluma girls who won the Pittsburg High School Queen of the Mat Tournament.

Cindy Diaz at 108 pounds and Alyssa Archer at 111 pounds led the way with first-place finishes in their respective weight classes.

Brooklyn Shattuck at 101 pounds, Citlalle Calderon (116), Logan Pomi (132) and Sarah Malkovich all reached the finals, each finishing second.

Sunshine Sather (145) went 2-2 in the tourney.

Also at Pittsburg High, Nick Trave (106) took second and Lukas Bettencourt (145) third in varsity boys competition. Mario Marco was 2-2 at 152 pounds.

Max Winslow was first, Nathan Groth third, Nick Tarca fifth and Joe Grob third in junior varsity competition.

In the Dawn2Dusk Tournament at Marin Catholic High School, Connor Pedersen won the 132-pound weight class.

Liam O’Niell (138) and Colton Prieto (145) both placed third. Daxton Hogya (138) finished fifth and Charlie Winter (120) and Dominic Butts (126) were both sixth.

Mac Shattuck and Jacob Bettencourt were both 1-2.

In a Sonoma County League dual meet, Petaluma handled Piner, 78-6.

Butts (134), Pomi (172), Fernando Rodriguez (197), Daniel DeCarli (222) and Derek Honey (285) all won by pin.
