Casa Grande High School graduate Spencer Torkelson made a big splash in his college baseball debut last weekend.

Torkelson and the Arizona State Sun Devils got off to a slow start in the first of a four-game series against Miami of Ohio, with the Wildcats losing, 4-2, while the former Gaucho went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Things picked up in a hurry. Arizona State won the second game, 7-3, and Torkelson hit two home runs while going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

ASU won the third game of the set, 11-1, with Torkelson hitting another home run while going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Arizona State lost the final game of the series, 16-8, but Torkelson continued his torrid hitting, belting two doubles and driving in two runs.

In his first college season, Torkelson was 7-for-16 (.438), with three home runs, two doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored.
