3 Petaluma schools to get new principals next semester

There will be new leaders at the top for three Petaluma City Schools next fall.

Three new principals begin July 1 to get a running start toward preparing for the 2018-2019 school year. The new principals are Amy Schlueter, who will take over at Mary Collins Charter School at Cherry Valley; Amanda Grey, who will be new at Grant Elementary School; and Nancy Emanuele, who takes over the Petaluma Adult School.

Schlueter has been in education since 1997, having taught at both Petaluma Junior High School and Petaluma Adult School. She is currently assistant principal at Kenilworth Junior High School.

Previously she taught English, film studies and computers at Piner High School in Santa Rosa, where she was responsible for coordinating cross-curricular teams to attend professional development in educational technology and for conducting weekly trainings on new digital media.

While at Piner, she also served as a freshman transition team facilitator, member of the school site council, and was elected representative on the Santa Rosa City Schools Common Core Network.

In Petaluma, she has been a member of the Petaluma City Schools Leadership Team since 2015.

Schlueter graduated with degrees in English and psychology from Sonoma State University and also earned her administrative service credential and master’s degree in Education Technology Leadership from Sonoma State.

Schlueter lives in Santa Rosa with husband, Cliff, and children, Noble, Raven and Castle. She likes to remain active and enjoys swimming and tennis.

Grey has been an elementary educator since 2009. She has taught at both Hidden Valley Elementary School in the Ross Valley School District and Vallecito Elementary in the Dixie School District.

She received a bachelor of arts degree in education and a multiple subject teaching credential from Dominican University. She earned a master’s degree and administrative credential from San Francisco State University.

She served for many years as camp programming director for the Marin Jewish Community Center summer Camp.

Grey has a background in theater, and she has a passion for the arts and community service. She also enjoys travel, cooking, comedy and dance.

Emanuele becomes principal of Petaluma Adult School after serving as assistant principal. Prior to that, she was an assistant principal at both Petaluma and Kenilworth junior high schools. She has also served as the elementary summer school principal for the Petaluma City Schools District.

She has a bachelor’s degree in German from the University of the Pacific. She earned a master’s degree in German from the University of California, Davis. She earned an administrative services credential from Sonoma State University.

Emanuele taught in the Adult Education program in the Petaluma City Schools District for 24 years. As an administrator in adult education, she has supported ESL, preparation for naturalization, independent study, ready-for-kindergarten, Pasitors, apprenticeship programs and community education.
