SRJC event to remember, help heal

Santa Rosa Junior College will host a Day of Remembrance and Gratitude in recognition of the one-year anniversary of the fires that burned large areas of Santa Rosa and surrounding areas last October.

The event will be held on Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. in the Larry Bertolini Student Center, Girvin Family Student Activities Center on the Santa Rosa Campus.

The free event will include two showings of “Urban Inferno: The Night Santa Rosa Burned,” a locally made documentary on the Tubbs fire, which began on Oct. 8, 2017. Writer, director and producer Dr. Stephen Seager will be in attendance, along with special guest KSRO Morning News host Pat Kerrigan. The showings will occur at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Guided healing activities will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the Larry Bertolini Student Center Quad. The facilitated activities include a sidewalk chalk art mural, small table conversations, reflective music and journaling. The film contains detailed video/images of the wildfires and destruction along with messages of hope. Some may find the overall perspective helpful. Some emotions may be triggered by the video/images. Volunteer and intern therapists will be available.
