Three recent graduates of Petaluma High School - Mitchel Baker, Hanlin Manchester and MarcAnthony Velasquez - all members of Boy Scout Troop 74, have received the Eagle Scout Award, Scouting’s highest honor.

Baker and Manchester came up through the ranks of McNear Elementary Cub Scouts, led by Scott Manchester, while Velasquez began as a Grant School Cub, led by Malcolm Johnson. All three received their Order of the Arrow (graduation from Webelos) in 2010, and have been in Boy Scout Troop 74, led by Mike Jayne, ever since.

In addition to leadership positions within the troop, each boy carried out a unique project as a final Eagle Scout requirement. Baker completed a clothing drive for COTS, while Manchester helped restore trails at Helen Putnam Park and Velasquez gathered food for the Mentor Me program.

All three have taken part in several 50-mile hikes in the Sierras, along with Rim Rover hikes (climbs up Bay Area mountains such as Mt. Diablo and Mt. Tamalpais), and scout camps.

Velasquez and Baker found time to participate in football, track and band, while Manchester and Baker were seen performing in Petaluma High’s Gentleman’s Quarterly.

Baker is attending San Francisco State, while Manchester is at UC Santa Cruz and Velasquez is continuing his studies at San Diego State.
