Sonoma County League Swimming: Young Trojans come up with several strong efforts

It has been something of a rebuilding year for the Petaluma High School swim team, but the young Trojans saved their best for last, coming up with several exceptional performances in the Sonoma County League championship meet held at the Petaluma Swim Center.|

It has been something of a rebuilding year for the Petaluma High School swim team, but the young Trojans saved their best for last, coming up with several exceptional performances in the Sonoma County League championship meet held at the Petaluma Swim Center.

Many of Petaluma’s top performances were by freshmen and sophomores, although the Petaluma standout was senior Haley Joslin, who dominated the 500-yard freestyle in 5:42.06. She was also fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:22.46.

Freshman Annika Schmid swam third in the 200-yard IM in 2:34.23, and she was fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:20.09.

Freshman Lilly Brinkmann was fifth in the 50-yard free in 29.59.

The Petaluma 200-yard medley relay team of Kate Wright, Joslin, Schmid and Brinkman was fifth in 2:51.07.

The Petaluma 200-yard freestyle relay team of Maggie Davis, Nina Pariani, Isabelle Barnes and Kelsey Villa was third in 2:13.86. Davis and Villa are freshmen, while ?Barnes is a sophomore.

Wright, Joslin, Schmid and Brinkmann were fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:27.49.

Freshman Owen Neufeld had a strong race for the Petaluma boys in the 500 free, swimming second in 5:28.47. He was also third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.91.

Sophomore Eli Holmberg had a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming 1:19.68.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Jeremy Eckhoff, Eli Holmberg, Nik Fratteralli and Owen Neufeld was third in a very cmpetitive, 1:59.69.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jeremy Eckhoff, Sterling Prielo, Joey Reed and Steve Pozzi placed fourth in 1:59.04.

David Liang, Holmberg, Fratteralli and Neufeld finished fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:06.96.

As a team, the Petaluma girls were fourth with 233 points behind dominating Analy (616), Sonoma Valley (358), El Molino (261) and Healdsburg (231).

Sonoma Valley surprised by winning the boys meet with 387 points, followed by Analy (373), Healdsburg (275), Petaluma (229), El Molino (151) and Piner (134).

On the Petaluma girls team are Davis, Kristin Steffen, Erin Martin, Wright, Sophia Tempio-Wilson, Shelby Hubbard, Pariani, Barnes, Joslin, Schmid, Brinkman, Jasmine Byerley, Megan Brown, Carrie Butulia, Julia Duffy, Vella, Alexus Allen, Isabella Sessi and Leah Richter.

The boys team includes David Lang, Eckhoff, Prieto, Reed, Clay Teague, Holmberg, Frattarelli, Andrew Guillory, Pozzi, Justin Mahrt, Riley Matson, Diego Edquivel and Neufeld.
