Fire Calls for the Week of 7/10/14
The Petaluma Fire Department received 47 medical and 62 fire or other emergency calls from June 30 through July 6. Here are some of the calls.
1:58 p.m. — Emergency personnel responded to a single-car crash on Lakeville Highway. Upon arrival they saw the vehicle had left the roadway and its three passengers were out of it, with bystanders giving them medical attention. One passenger in particular had more serious injuries and was transported immediately to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
5:14 a.m. — Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Bishop Circle on reports of a small blaze in the backyard of a residence. They arrived to find it had been extinguished. The fire may have been caused by fireworks.
5:11 p.m. — Several units were called to a field at Norfolk Drive and Lennox Drive, where a grass fire was consuming a half-acre area. Firefighters “initiated an offensive attack” to suppress the blaze, and soon brought it under control within a two-acre area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
12:43 p.m. — A 62-year-old Petaluma man was transported to the hospital after his bicycle was hit by a vehicle on N. Petaluma Boulevard near Oak Street. Emergency personnel arrived to find him sitting on the curb with police present. He was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital.
7:48 p.m. — Fireworks caused a small fire on Industrial Avenue. The reporting party was able to put out the blaze, which burned a 5-square-foot area, before firefighters arrived. He witnessed the fireworks going off, but did not see who lit them. No suspects were found.
5:27 p.m. — Firefighters assisted at the scene of an automobile accident on St. Francis Drive. One person, a 24-year-old Santa Rosa man, was transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital for treatment.
