Prep teams ready for tourney time

It.s tournament time for high school basketball teams.|

High School basketball teams shoot into the tournament season this weekend as they try to squeeze in as many learning experiences as possible before the winter break.

The Petaluma boys will play in Cardinal Newman’s Rose City Tournament on Thursday through Friday. The tournament will have special significance as the host Cardinals still try to recover from the wildfire that partially destroyed its campus last month.

St. Vincent’s young Mustangs will participate in the John McMillan Invitational Tournament in Cloverdale and Tomales will compete in the Calistoga Tournament.

For area fans, the big tournament will be Casa Grande’s Brett Callan Memorial Tournament hosted in honor of the Gauchos’ late coach Dec. 14-16.

In addition, coming up quickly are head-to-head meetings between Petaluma rival schools.

The Petaluma and Casa Grande girls teams go head-to-head Friday night in the Casa Grande gym.

Petaluma’s boys are not in Casa Grande’s Brett Callan Tournament this year, but the rivals will play Dec. 12 in the Casa gym.

St. Vincent’s girls meet Casa Grande on Thursday night in the Casa gym and then host Petaluma on Saturday night.
