A resident on Bennett Valley Road came home to find two female burglars inside, and fired shots at the suspects, starting a hunt that brought police officers, deputies and a helicopter swarming to the scene.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of Bennett Valley Road, said Lt. Tim Duke of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The victim tried to block the suspects' car in his driveway, but the women fled, so the homeowner fired multiple shots at the suspects' car, hitting the engine compartment, Duke said.

“There were multiple shots fired into the vehicle, but neither suspect received any injuries,” Duke said. “I believe the shots were to disable the vehicle.”

The women got away, but one was later brought into custody by deputies.

“We're still actively working part of that case,” Duke said.

Officials did not release the identities of either suspect.
