FRIDAY

Buster Poindexter

He came to fame as part of The New York Dolls. His crooner’s voice is big, smooth and bluesy. His real name is David Johansen, but as Buster Poindexter, he helped to resurrect a style of Blues showmanship that had died out with Ray Charles and Joe Brown. He’s coming to Petaluma, where he will show off his patented blend of tunes, talk, jokes and brilliant song-smithing. The Mystic Theatre, 21 Petaluma Blvd. N. Tickets $45. 8:30 p.m. show. SATURDAY

Blue 7 jazz band

Petaluma’s mighty ensemble of jazz-riffing retirees hits Aqus Café for an evening of “beefy, meaty jazz,” the kind that thrills those who love jazz, and those who didn’t yet know they loved jazz. 7 p.m. Aqus Café, 198 H. St. Aquscafe.com

Attila Viola and the?Bakersfield Boys

Bakersfield-style honkytonk served up right, performing the songs of Merle Haggard and others with an authenticity and edge that turns any night-in-a-bar into a holy, sacred, sinful country-rock revival. Twin Oaks Roadhouse, 5745 Old Redwood Hwy. Fist set 8:30 p.m. No cover/21 and over. Twinoaksroadhouse.com

SUNDAY

Big Mama Day with Julia Butterfly Hill & Hwy. Poets

She lived in a tree for two years, and ever since has travelled the Earth talking about ecology, conservation and the importance of standing up for Mother Nature. As a benefit for Daily Acts, she’ll be one of several speakers and musicians appearing at Big Mama Day, from Noon to 6, at Heritage Salvage, 1473 Petaluma Blvd. S. Heritagesalvage.com
