Two of Petaluma’s and the Redwood Empire’s best high school softball players have been recognized by inclusion on the Cal-Hi Sports All-State team.

St. Vincent High School senior shortstop Ursyla Baumgarten was chosen to the Small School first team, while Petaluma High’s Joelle Krist was picked to the Medium School second team.

Baumgarten, a senior, missed several games with an injury. When healthy, there wasn’t a better softball player in the Redwood Empire on any level. An outstanding defensive shortstop, she had a .490 batting average with 25 hits in just 15 games.

Krist, a junior, hit .529 with 11 home runs in 28 games. Counted among her 45 hits were 11 doubles and five triples. She drove in 47 runs and had a .580 on-base percentage.

She played first and third base for the T-Girls after starting at second base as a sophomore.

Both players were leaders for league-unbeaten championship teams, St. Vincent in the North Central League II and Petaluma in the Sonoma County League.
