SOCCER PLAYOFFS: Petaluma blanks Casa Grande

The win advances the No.8 seed Trojans (16-4-2) into a meeting with No. 1 seed Rancho Cotate (1-1-3) Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Rohnert Park. Rancho Cotate shut out Eureka, 1-0, in its first-round game.

Casa Grande finished its season with a 9-8-1 record.

In boys Division 2, St. Vincent, the No. 6 seed, lost in the first round to Oakland Military Institute (12-8-2).

Fernando Vaca scored St. Vincent’s only goal. The Mustangs finish the season with a 12-5-2 record.

In boys Division 3, Tomales (13-4-1), the No. 4 seed, slugged Contra Costa Christian 8-2, and will now take on Geyserville Saturday night at Tomales. Geyserville (14-5-1), the No. 5 seed, took care of Pleasant Hill Academy, 5-2, in its first-round game.

Petaluma’s girls blanked Piner, 6-0, in its first round Division 1 game. Megan Stavish scored twice for the Trojans, with Armi Keen, Amy Ferrick Hannah Devoe and Annie Madden also scoring. Stavish and Keen each had two assists, wile Olivia Stewart and Cassie Baddeley added one each.

Petaluma (11-3-2) will play at Analy (17-1), the No. 3 seed, Saturday night in Sebastopol.

Casa Grande (11-4-4) the No. 4 seed, drew a first-round bye and will open its playoffs in a quarterfinal game against No. 5 seed Arcata (19-2) Saturday night at home. Arcata also drew a first-round bye.

In girls Division 3, St. Vincent (15-2-2), the No. 2 seed, drew a first-round bye, and will face Fort Bragg 10-8-1) Saturday at noon at St. Vincent. Fort Bragg beat Ferndale, 3-0, in its first-round game.
