Petaluma rallied too late in a Saturday afternoon game against Dublin played at Cardinal Newman High School.

The Trojans scored three runs in the seventh inning, but came up short in a 7-4 loss. Dublin built a 5-0 lead and, after the Trojans scored their first run in the sixth, came back with two more in the top of the seventh. Petaluma went down swinging with its final-inning rally.

Greg Thomas, Ty O’Donnell and Ben Sanderson each had two hits for the Trojans. O’Donnell, Brendon White, Clay Gallagher and Sanderson drove in runs for Petaluma.

Earlier in the week, the wheels came off for Petaluma in the sixth inning after four strong innings against North Bay League power Maria Carrillo as the Trojans were beaten on their home diamond, 12-2.

Petaluma, behind strong pitching from Hunter Williams, trailed just 2-1 after five innings, but the Pumas scored five runs in the sixth, and put the game out of reach with five more in the seventh.

Petaluma had seven hits in the game, three by Austin Gabbert, who doubled and scored a run. Luke Wheless, Thomas, Tyler Williams and Gallagher also had hits for the Trojans.

Petaluma is now 1-4 for the season.

St. Vincent ran its season-starting win streak to five straight Tuesday with a 10-5 win at Lower Lake. The Mustangs took charge with three-run rallies in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Sky Doble earned the pitching win and also collected a hit for the Mustangs.

George Sammon led a 10-hit Mustang bat assault with a pair of hits and also scored three runs.

Other bat contributors for the Mustangs were Dominic Pedersen with a double and four RBIs, Bradley Leach with a hit, Liam Galten with a hit and two RBIs, Michael Davis with a hit and two runs scored, Ryan Lowry with a hit and two runs scored, Alex Dombrowski with a hit and Trevor Bovaird with a double and an RBI.

Earlier, St. Vincent continued it hard-hitting ways, defeating Marin Academy, 9-2, in a game played on the St. Vincent diamond.

The Mustangs rallied for three runs in the third inning, and put the game out of reach with four more scores in the fourth.

The Mustangs hit up and down their lineup with Dombrowski and Galten leading the way with two hits each. Ryan Yamaguchi, Nick Vollert, Doble and Bovaird all contributed hits. Vollert doubled and Doble tripled.

Galten pitched five strong innings before giving way to Bovaird. Between the two, they allowed just three hits.

Earlier in the week, Pedersen and Lowry combined on a no-hitter as the Mustangs beat fort Bragg, 10-0.

Pedersen pitched four innings, walking none and striking out four.

St. Vincent had just five hits in the game, but took advantage of eight Fort Bragg walks and three errors.

Sammon led St. Vincent at the plate with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Pedersen tripled and drove home two runs while Vollert and Doble also had hits for the Mustangs.

Softball

Defending North Central league II champion St. Vincent continued its difficult pre-league season, losing to North Bay League title contender Windsor, 15-5.

St. Vincent had five hits in the game, but could not match Windsor’s 12-hit firepower.

Haley Antonini and McKenna Wilson-Kay each had two hits for the Lady Mustangs.

Ashlynn Wells had a single, double and triple to lead Windsor.

Lacrosse

Petaluma High’s Trojans had a successful home opener, notching a 16-8 victory over Clayton Valley.

The night belonged to sophomore Brandon Ruzick, who scored a blistering 10 goals in the effort. Senior and first-year player Yusef Kawasmi scored his first career goal, and received the game ball to mark the milestone.

Two nights later, the Trojans recorded another home victory, this time a 9-8 nail-biter over Redwood.

Junior Ellis Scherer led the scoring for Petaluma with three goals, and scooped up several ground balls. Scherer was awarded the game ball for his efforts.

Also contributing two goals apiece were Ruzick, junior Garrett Teagarden and freshman Isaiah Blomgren.

A solid defensive effort anchored by senior Tate Barend helped preserve the victory, with four saves recorded by junior goalie John Lautner.

The wins improved the overall Petaluma record to 3-1 for the season heading into league play.

Casa Grande defeated Drake on Tuesday night, 16-4.

Philippe Devarrene was the MVP of the game winning 90 percent of the faceoffs and scoring three goals.

Angelo Lagomarsino added five goals with two assists and Hank Wickley led the Gauchos with eight saves.

Boys tennis

Montgomery had too much strength for Casa Grande, blanking the Gauchos, 7-0.

Best effort for the Gauchos came from No. 2 singles Ram Goli, who lost to Montgomery’s Riley Officer, 6-7 (7-3), 7-5, 10-5.

The No. 1 Casa doubles team of Sam Fuller and Spencer Battaglia lost to the Vikings’ No. 1 duo of Alex Billings and Jacob King, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4; while Casa’s No. 2 doubles team of Jason Goldblatt and John Becker lost to Montgomery’s Aaron Dueck and Riley O’Neill, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Casa Grande had better results in a match played at Windsor, beating the Jaguars, 4-3.

Nico Carballal at No. 1, Ram Goli at No. 2 and Kevin Zamanzadeh at No. 3 earned singles wins for the Gauchos.

The match was decided at No. 3 doubles where Casa’s Jason Fox and Josiah Huse won a three-set thriller over Windsor’s Nick Young and Camden Buckman, 5-7, 6-4, 10-8.

Petaluma dropped all four singles matches to Sonoma Valley in a 6-1 Sonoma County League loss in Sonoma.

Petaluma’s only win was at No. 1 doubles where Trojans Dimitri Papoag an Jason Metten defeated Ian Bon and Luke Vaughn, 6-4, 6-4.

Petaluma’s No. 4 singles, Alex Wolf had a good match, but lost to Sonoma Valley’ Liam Handon, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.
