Trojans bringing times down as league meet nears

With the Sonoma County League championships and other big meets fast approaching, Petaluma High School tracksters are beginning to lower times in running events and increase distances in the field events. ?The Trojans recorded a whole passel of personal records in sweeping a tri-meet with El Molino and Analy last week.

The Petaluma boys won with 75 points, to 65 for El Molino and 22 for Analy. In the girls’ competition, Petaluma scored 91 points to 40 for Analy and 31 for El Molino.

Among the standouts for Petaluma’s boys in the running events were: Jack Dunbar with a first in the 1600 in 4:43.42 and a 1:15.24 first in the 800 in a PR 1:15.24; Edden Yashar with a second in the 800 in 4:50 and a second in the 3200 in 10:56.46 and PJ Lynch with a 4:54.08 and an 11:07 third in the 3200; James Flynn with a 20.75 third in the 110 high hurdles and a 48.03 PR third in the 300 intermediate hurdles; Gabe Sarabia with a 22.03 fourth in the intermediates and a 49.35 PR fourth in the 300s.

In the boys field events standouts were: Brendan O’Neill with a 5-8 first in the high jump; a 19-4 first in the long jump; and a 40-3 first in the triple jump; Jesse Johnson with a 5-6 PR fourth in the high jump at 5-6; Jorge Becerra with a 113-8 third in the discus; Jack Crayne with a first in the shot at a PR 40-2 and Travis Plank with a 39-11 second.

Among Petaluma’s girls running standouts were: Madison Parratt with a first in the 1600 in 5:45.47; Sophie Hospodar, second in the 1600 in 5:49.56 and third in the 300 hurdles in 2:42. Nora Lindsay, with a PR 18.60 in the 100-meter hurdles; Camille Flynn, with a PR second in the 400 in 1:04.18 and a 2:31.33 first in the 800; Marina Armstrong, with a third in a PR 1:04.76 in the 800; Helena Abbott with a fourth in 1:07.80 in the 400; Marina Armstrong with a second in the 800 in 2:40.66; Sallie Hollingshead with fourth in the 800 in a PR 2:44.86; Camille Leoni with a 13.29 first in the 100 and Savannah Coen with a fourth in 14.22; Sandy Dennis, with a second in the 300 hurdles in a PR 50.83; and Nora Lindsay with a third in 52.08.

Among the Petaluma standouts in the field events were: Erika Gilmore with a second in the pole vault at 8-0; Sallie Hollingshead with a 7-3 third in the pole vault; Kylie McCorkel with a PR 31-4 third in the triple jump and a third in the long jump at a 15-4 PR; Nora Lindsay with a 29-8 third in the shot; Clare Pierce with a 85-8 fourth in the discus and a 32-5 win in the shot and Maddy Satos with a 26-2 fifth in the shot.
