Petaluma net team sweeps by Casa Grande

Petaluma High's Lady Trojan volleyball team made short work of Casa Grande Thursday evening, turning back a challenge from the Lady Gauchos in three sets.

Although the Lady Trojans swept to a 3-0 win, the competition in the Petaluma gym was intense.

Petaluma breezed to a 25-16 win in the first set, but then things got exciting.

Petaluma built a 19-11 lead in the second set, before Casa Grande roared back to pull to within three at 23-20 and 24-21, before the Lady Trojans were able to close out the win.

Casa Grande led for much of the third set, and was ahead 23-20, before Petaluma's Paula Clarey took charge, slamming four straight kills to propel the Lady Trojans to the win.

Clarey had a huge game for Petaluma, taking charge of the net every time control seemed to be slipping away from the Lady Trojans.

Another standout for Petaluma was setter Lauren Fisher who fueled the Lady Trojan attack with digs and accurate sets.

"It was definitely a dog fight," said Petaluma coach Jesse Ortiz. "I'm proud of my girls. Casa Grande is definitely coming up. They are a good team."

Nicole Kincaide led Casa's efforts with 11 kills, while Ashley Harris had seven.

"I think we were a little too excited at the start," said Casa Grande coach Jill Forni. "We were too anxious to make a play."
