Panther Pee Wees lose early lead

The Petaluma Panthers Pee Wee football team played the San Marin Colts at Casa Grande High School on Sunday and lost a tough game, 19-8.|

The Petaluma Panthers Pee Wee football team played the San Marin Colts at Casa Grande High School on Sunday and lost a tough game, 19-8.

On the Panthers’ first possession, running back Toby Humphreys scampered around the right end for a 33-yard touchdown. Anthony Velladao’s successful kick made it 8-0.

On the next possession, San Marin fumbled. But on the next play, Petaluma fumbled back to San Marin after a 20-yard run. San Marin took advantage of the Panther turnover and drove the ball 70 yards for its first touchdown.

After a successful onside kick, the Colts were able to drive down for their second score and successful extra point. The score at the half was 13-8.

Neither team was able to get much offense going in the second half, and the teams traded possessions.

Late in the game, San Marin was able to drive the ball with time expiring, and scored with one minute remaining in the game.

Defensive standouts for the Panthers included Nicholas Pfendler, Spencer Almond, Joe Ellis and Nick Sousa.
