The Petaluma-based youth kayak racing club, River Town Racers, has had a terrific spring season while readying to compete at the National Sprint Championships in Florida this summer.

All RTR competitors podiumed at last Saturday’s final winter series race at 101 Surf Sports in San Rafael.

Coming in first overall, and setting a course record for paddlers of any age or gender was Jasper Caddell, 15, of Petaluma, in 19:25.36 on the roughly 2.5-mile course.

Close behind him was Dylan Anacleto-Black, 14, of Cotati in 20:43.50 and Philip Majumdar, 14, of Petaluma in 22:01.18.

Chloe Madden, 14, of Petaluma took first place overall in the women’s division in 22:07.53.

All these paddlers set personal records.

In the 101 Surf Sports’ race, River Town Racer Zachary Alva Boone, 19, of Rohnert Park, established himself as a regional contender in surfski racing, coming in third in a powerful field of solo paddlers on the approximately 6-mile long course in 45:48.08.

River Town Racers paddlers range in age from 11 to 70 and compete as often as they can in regional races. Several members plan to participate in the Silver Blade Regatta in San Diego in April.

The club initiates new members through an Introduction to Kayak Racing clinic for youths 11-17 each June. For more information about this summer’s clinic, go to rivertownracers.org.
