Basketball camps coming

Summer brings with it camps for young basketball players on both sides of town.|

Summer means basketball for many Petaluma youngsters, and several basketball camps are planned to keep young hoopsters occupied and improving.

Nothin’ But Net

The granddaddy of all local camps, Doug Johnson and Eric Hoppes’ Nothin’ But Net Camp, is back for a 33rd year.

Camp directors are former Petaluma High School girls coach Johnson and former Petaluma High boys coach Hoppes. Players from local high school teams will help coach.

There are two camps.

Nothin’ But Net Individual Skills Camp runs from June 5-9 for girls in grades 3-8 and June 12-16 for boys in the same grades. Camp is from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day.

Both boys and girls camps offer 30 hours of instruction, a camp T-shirt, camp basketball, camp awards, written evaluation, individual competition, position drills and fundamentals reinforcement.

The Competition Camp runs from July 10-14. The camp is for both boys and girls in grades 5-9.

The camp includes 30 hours of instruction and games, a camp reversible jersey, camp awards, written evaluation, individual competition, team competition, fundamentals reinforcement and position and team drills.

Both camps will be held at Petaluma Junior High School.

Gaucho Camp

Casa Grande High School head coach Jake Lee will hold his first Gaucho Basketball Camp in Casa’s Coach Ed Iacopi Gymnasium on June 19-22.

The camp will be held in two sessions.

Session 1 is for incoming fourth- through sixth-graders, and will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Session 2 is for incoming seventh- through ninth-graders and will run from noon-3 p.m.

There is a discount for campers registering before May 26.

The camp will focus mainly on skill development (offensive and defensive) and will include tournament play to crown a camp champion for each session.
