Herb’s Pool & Spa wins over 40 tournament

Herb’s Pool & Spa won the Over-40 City Slow-pitch Softball Tournament last weekend, but the Shaggers made the winners work for the title.

Herb’s Pool & Spa won its first two games in the four-team tournament handily, but then slipped as the Shaggers, battling back through the losers’ bracket, defeated it, 10-5. The Shaggers jumped out to a quick four-run lead and romped to the win, necessitating a second game for the championship.

Herb’s Pool & Spa held on to win a defense-oriented game, 4-3. Herb’s scored a run in the bottom of the third and added another three runs before the Shaggers rallied for three in the top of the sixth to make the game close.

On the way to the championship games, Herb’s Pool & Spa beat KGB, 18-2, and Past Our Prime, 15-8.

The Shaggers lost to Past Our Prime, 6-3, before coming back to defeat KGB and avenge its loss with a 7-6 win over Past Our Prime. That set up the two-game championship round won by Herb’s.

The Petaluma Parks and Recreation’s Men’s C Tournament will be played Saturday, with the Men’s B Tournament on Sunday.
