Pitching helps Casa stay perfect in NBL

The Casa Grande High baseball team extended its North Bay League winning streak to five straight with a pair of impressive victories last week.

The Gauchos made the most out of minimal offense and strong pitching to defeat Maria Carrillo’s Pumas, 3-2, and Rancho Cotate’s Cougars, 3-0.

Against Maria Carrillo, the Gauchos rallied for three runs in the last of the sixth inning after the Pumas had scored their two runs in the top of the frame.

Nik Kamages pitched the distance in that game, allowing just three hits and not walking a batter. He struck out five. Neither of the runs off him were earned.

Casa Grande had only three hits, one each by Justin Millard, Joe Lampe and Aaron Van Tighem. Millard and Dylan Moore knocked in Casa Grande runs.

Casa Grande had an even tougher time hitting, but got even better pitching against Rancho Cotate.

The Gauchos had only one hit off the Cougars’ Joey Kramer, a double by A.J. Miller, but took advantage of four walks and three Rancho Cotate errors for their three runs.

Broc Burleson gave up only three hits to the Cougars but didn’t walk a batter and struck out four. Casa Grande played errorless defense behind him.
