The Twin Oaks Roadhouse in Penngrove, a Sonoma County tradition since 1924, is up and running under its new ownership.

After four weeks of remodeling and refurbishing, the tavern on Old Redwood Highway - now renamed a roadhouse - reopened quietly March 5 with a new maplewood dance floor, a new stage and new sound and lighting systems, said owner Dean Biersch.

“We shored the place up to give it a future,” Biersch said. “We’ve improved the site. It was down for a bit, but now it’s back up.”

At 8 p.m. tonight, March 11, Twin Oaks will offer music by the Mighty Groove, and at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 12, by the Court ‘n’ Disaster Band, both with no cover charge.

Musician Bill De Carli, manager of the HopMonk Tavern in Sebastopol, will kick off a weekly open mic night Wednesdays. The venue also will serve lunch and dinner daily, with children welcome.

In early December, it was announced that the bar and nightspot in Penngrove had been purchased by Dean Biersch, owner of three HopMonk Tavern venues and co-founder of Gordon Biersch Brewing Company.

“The other thing we’ve done at Twin Oaks is adding craft beer,” Biersch said today. “That’s my background.”

Twin Oaks was run by previous co-owner Sheila Groves-Tracey from 2013 until late last year, and she continues to book talent for the venue, Biersch said.
