Leghorns battling back
After losing their opening game in the American Legion Western Regional Tournament being played in Denver, the Petaluma Leghorns began battling back Thursday, beating Pleasant Grove, the Utah state champion, 5-2.
The Leghorns, the California state champions, dropped their opening game on Wednesday to Las Vegas, the Nevada state champion, 3-2. The early loss puts the Leghorns in the difficult position of having to play - and win - every day through the end of the tournament on Sunday as they strive to survive in the double-elimination tournament, the final step en route to the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C.
Petaluma plays today against Fort Collins, the Colorado state champion.
