Tourney time for Casa boys, SV girls

The Casa Grande boys and St. Vincent girls basketball teams get a jump on the tournament season this weekend.

The Gaucho boys play in the McKinleyville Tip-Off Classic, while the Mustang girls participate in the Lady Viking Classic in Carmichael.

The tournament season really gets serious the weekend of Dec. 8 through Dec. 10.

Petaluma will participate in one of the area’s most prestigious boys tournaments when it plays at Cardinal Newman in the Rose City Tournament.

St. Vincent participates in the equally renowned McMillan Tournament hosted by Cloverdale High School.

On the girls side, St. Vincent will play in the Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament in Healdsburg, while Petaluma High hosts a tournament for junior varsity teams.

All tournaments run Thursday through Saturday.

In key solo games this week, the St. Vincent boys have two difficult road games, playing at Berean Christian on Friday and at St. Helena next Tuesday.

Petaluma’s girls begin a series of road games tonight, playing at Menlo School before going to Livermore next Monday.

Winter soccer continues tonight with Petaluma hosting Novato, while Casa Grande plays at De Anza on Friday.
